Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT)
Important Notice
Beginning February 7, 2022, entry-level drivers are subject to the requirements established under the Federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations.
This applies to drivers seeking to:
- Obtain a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time
- Upgrade an existing CDL to a higher class
- Obtain a School Bus (S), Passenger (P), or Hazardous Materials (H) endorsement for the first time
The ELDT regulations establish a Federal standard for CDL training applicants. Applicants must successfully complete the required ELDT training before they are permitted to:
- Take the CDL Skills Test
- Take the Hazardous Materials (H) Endorsement Knowledge Test
Drivers may search for an approved training provider through the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.

Typical CDL Fees in Georgia Include:
- Commercial Application (CAP): $35
- Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP): $10
- CDL License (Class A, B, or C): $32 (valid for 8 years)
- Road Skills Test: $50 (if applicable)
Medical Requirements:
- DOT physical exam: $75–$150
- Drug screening (if required): $40–$60
Note: DMV fees are paid directly to the Georgia Department of Driver Services. DOT physical exams are paid directly to the certified medical examiner. Referrals can be provided upon request.
